“Conducting is vocal, human artistry, ensemble.”
The instrument that is a voice is different from any other! Each “instrument” is a human being, embodying every physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspect of human existence! We are all different from each other; and we are each different today than we were yesterday. That is what makes working with voices, with choirs so incredibly dynamic!
The work I do with choirs – even the conducting gestures used - is very directly informed by my own experience as a singer. Singing is a journey in self-discovery that requires courage and a safe space in which to explore possibilities. I delight in supporting each singer in finding his or her own artistic personality and expression; and that experience is only intensified when shared in the community that is a choir!
